The firearm that had been used for slaying two Mississippi police officers last weekend had been found on Friday, according to state law enforcement officials.
The ballistics testing of the .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun had been confirmed as the same one which has been used for shooting officers Benjamin Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25, according to the Mississippi Department of Public.
Marvin Banks, 29 had been charged with two counts of capital murder over the shootings which took place during a routine traffic stop on Saturday. His brother Curtis Banks, 26, and Joanie Calloway, 22, had been charged with accessory after the fact of capital while 4 others have been charged with obstruction of justice.
In the year 2015, Dean and Tate had been 9th and 10th law enforcement officials in the United States to have been shot and killed by assailants, as per the reports of Officer Down Memorial Page, a non-profit organization which keeps track of police death in the line of duty.
Both officers had died from single gunshot wounds. It had been more than 30 years since a Hattiesburg police officer had been killed in the line of duty.
Judge Gay Polk- Payton of Forrest County Justice Court set bond at $100,000 for Curtis Banks on Monday while bond for Calloway and Clark had been set at $75,000. Marvin Banks had been denied bond on the murder counts and bond was set at $100,000 on each of the two other charges. Polk-Payton set bond at $75,000 for Abram Wade “Pete” Franklin, 29, of Hattiesburg, on Friday morning.
