Patients with metabolic syndrome have a high risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and diabetes that may lead to premature death. A diagnosis is highly essential if a person consists large waist circumference and abdominal fat, low level of HDL cholesterol and a high level of triglycerides, high blood pressure and high glucose metabolism
A study revealed that African – American women are at high risk of heart failures and this is because they are prone towards the three factors that requires the diagnosis. The results of the study was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association and it stated that any of the two metabolic anomalies found in a person can escalate the risk of a cardiac arrest and/or a stroke. The study also suggested that most of the African-American women are being found to have at least two of the three metabolic anomalies in them.
Metabolic syndrome was more common among women than men in 2011-12. It is estimated that 37% of the women had metabolic syndrome than men with a lower rate of 33%. Amongst the women diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, Latinos were 39% and non-Latinos (white) were 37% while African-American women were 36%. Other racial and ethnic groups were counted 23%.
With the age being a greater element, about 18% of Americans within the range of 20 and 39 years old were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. And according to the study, 47% of the people were over 60 years old.
Two groups of Americans had the doubtful difference of having a prevalence of more than 50% - Latinos were among those age groups.
The metabolic syndrome fell among women in 2007-08 with only 39%. However, the overall widespread condition suggests that it could restart its ascending march as the condition tends to rise with age. The researchers said that it is a concerning observation given the aging U.S. population.
