As many people have already filled their tax return and are anxiously waiting to get the status of their federal tax refund, tax preparation experts revealed a few steps to check their own IRS Tax Refund status.
According to the experts, people can use a simple web based IRS tool known as ‘Where is my refund’ to check their federal tax refund status. It was confirmed that an individual need to provide his/her social security number, filing status, and exact refund amount in order to process their request. It was also reported that by using ones smartphone app ‘IRS2go’ an individual can also check the status of the tax refund. If qualified they can also find a free tax preparation assistant. The same information has to be provided when using the mobile app. The mobile app also provides contact numbers for any user for various tax related inquiries.
IRS said, people can simply call them up to know their status if they do not have any access to computers or smartphones. But they had also confirmed that an IRS staff can only look for the tax refund status after an individual e-filled their documents and 21 days had passed or the web based tool had directed them to call them. For individuals who have submitted their document for more than 6 weeks can also phone and ask for their status.
According to the tax preparation experts, an individual can check his status after 24-hours of e-filing. They have to wait for 4 weeks if they had submitted a paper based return, but IRS also warned that the will update their tools once every 24 hours, so people don’t need to check it more often. Experts are suggesting that, people can expect to get their returns after 21 days of e-filing. If anyone doesn’t receive the return by that time they have to call the IRS help line.
The tax preparation experts also suggested that if an individual has used a direct deposit, they should check with their bank to confirm if the return has been deposited. IRS said they will not notify the person if a check has been deposited.
