Mobile World Congress in Barcelona ended with a glimpse to a brave new world of mobile technology. The technology experts said, the exhibition also unveiled numerous new phones and technologies to the delegates.
The market analysts said, one of the main attraction of the exhibition was high speed internet hotspots in different vehicles. It was reported that Audi and GM already have 4G LTE capability in some of their vehicles. In a joint statement Audi and AT&T stated that they are working together to developed a 4G LTE in every Audi vehicles equipped with Audi connect navigation system, internet database and in car Wi-Fi. In an interview with CNN, AT&T CEO Glen Lauri said, the new technology means “better voice activation, better voice diagnostics — all the things you want so your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes stay on the road”. He then added, “It’s about vehicles talking to vehicles and vehicles talking to infrastructure. It’s about moving closer to self-driving vehicles. It’s about this working with your home, it’s about inanimate objects taking care of you versus you taking care of them”.
The tech experts are also eagerly waiting for the 5G, as the key leaders are branding the 4G as a thing of the past. In a statement Director General of GSMA Anne Bouverot said, “We’re starting to talk about the transition to 5G which does not exist today”. Then she explained what 5g could offer us when she said, “The really difficult thing to do with 4G today is to transmit a huge amount of 3D data in real time and to be able to act on it. You can’t do it today but that’s something we’d want to try and be able to do with 5G”.
The exhibition also showcased the virtual reality which took gaming beyond imagination. The virtual reality headsets were being showcased up and down the arena as the visitors were amazed about its future capability. Andrew Parker of GSMA’s Connected Living Program said, “Virtual reality headsets] were designed to show people what you can’t see. It’s about immersing people in an experience … you can show inside a vehicle, inside a car. This has got huge potential and you can see great applications for this, especially in online retail — you can walk down a shop, see the products, walk around things”.
