According to the police the ex-convict Daron Dylon Wint, accused in the murders of businessman Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Philip and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, most likely had help when he took the family captive on May 13.
On Thursday after a massive manhunt the police finally apprehended Wint in northeast Washington D.C. He finally appeared in court on Friday.
Based on the information provided by the Associated Press the police have strong suspicion that Wint did not act alone. According to the authorities he “required the presence and assistance of more than one person.”
Wint, was traveling in two cars with five other people when he was arrested. However it’s absolutely unclear whether these individuals, were involved in the murders.
According to the police source the 34-year-old, was identified by the DNA found on a partially eaten slice of pepperoni pizza left at the crime scene. Due to Wint’s regular run-ins with the law on multiple occasions, his DNA was already in a police database.
The Savopoulos family were most likely held for at least 18 hours. They somehow managed to pull together $40,000 cash. Since they wanted to keep people away from the home during the hostage situation, Savopoulos called his other housekeeper, Nelitza Gutierrez, and told her not to come to work since the entire family was sick.
Meanwhile, the pizza that was delivered home was paid for by credit card by Amy and urged the deliverer to leave it.
Wint stabbed the CEO, along with the wife and 10 year old child and the housemaid than set the house on fire right after Savopoulos’s assistant dropped off $40,000 cast on the seat of a red sports car in the family’s garage. According to the Police the source of fire originated from the mattress that 10-year-old Philip was tied to. Unfortunately the child’s body was burned beyond recognition.
Public defender Natalie Lawson is representing Wint. She is arguing that the police lack probable cause, and emphasizing on the fact that the original person of interest in the case is someone who was seen driving the family’s blue Porsche that was later found torched in Maryland.

Hard to imagine such a Heinous Crime, esp. hurting/Killing an Innocent Child. Really really sad/SICKENING. I hope He pays the Ultimate Price.
