Presidential nomination hopeful Jeb Bush defended his stand on common core school standard. At a congressional fundraiser in suburban Des Moines on Friday night, a GOP hopeful and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush defended his stand on the Common Core School Standard as it was previously reported that, the other potential Prudential candidates and most conservative party members rejected the idea.

Common Core Standards are a set for voluntary reading, language arts and math goals created by a bipartisan team of Governors and adopted in more than 40 States. This system also has the support of current Obama administration. But most of the Republicans rejected the idea by saying, that they don’t want the states to decide the standard of a school.

During his speech in the fundraiser on Friday Jeb Bush said, “Raising expectations and having accurate assessments of where kids are is essential for success, and I’m not going to back down on that”. According to a recent poll, Jeb Bush had a slight lead amongst the Republican candidates. It was also confirmed that Hillary Clinton has a commanding lead over other Democratic candidates.

When asked why other Republican Presidential nomination hopefuls oppose the idea, Jeb Bush said, “I know what I believe. I believe in higher standards that develop critical thinking skills”.

Another Republican Presidential nomination hopeful, the New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie supported the program in 2013. But he expressed concern about the standard in recent times. The other Presidential prospect Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal had also supported the standard but in recent times he is one of its biggest critics. In a recent statement he described the standard as, “Scheme by the federal government to nationalize curriculum”.

This is a first time visit to Iowa for Bush as a Presidential prospect. It was reported that he is expected to be present in an agricultural policy forum on Saturday in Des Moines and meet the republican activists in Cedar Rapids. Bush camp said, he is going to visit New Hampshire next weekend, home of the first presidential primary scheduled for 2016.
