Several million people across U.S.A. gets the chance to sign up for the second time on Saturday as the registration chances open again on Sunday. It was recently reported that several million people were hit with a fine for going on without any insurance plan for the last few months.
But health experts and government are worried that very few people actually know about this limited time line and will not be able to register. They are also worried that in coming months the penalty for not having any health insurance will rise. The new sign up window is for the 37 states joined by the federal healthcare.gov website. Other states have different rules and deadlines as they are running their own insurance exchange.
Under the President Obama`s new Health-Care law, virtually everyone in the country needs to have health coverage through their employer or on their own. Under the law in the first year the fines will be collected from the people the government consider financially able to afford health coverage. According to the experts the average penalty will be $170 and it will be deducted from their personal tax refund.
According to the health experts these laws will help the middle and low income people who do not have health coverage in their jobs or are self-employed. According to the Congress around four million people are expected to pay the fine and many more will qualify for exemptions.
According to the reports the enrollment will continue till April 30. The Obama administration acted to open this second enrollment window after several Democratic lawmakers showed their concern. They are concerned that, people who missed the open enrollment and filled their tax return after February 15 will not have insurance coverage for 2015. As a result they will owe the government a fine for 2014 and another bigger fine for 2015 as the Penalties for being uninsured are going up this year, to a minimum of $325 for the full 12 months.
The Government is asking the tax firms to notify their customers about the new window as the tax filing windows continue to remain open. But tax firms want the government to move the window as it is merging with the tax filing season. They argued that after having some tax return people might be interested to spend some money on health care.
