Two Indonesian aerobatic planes crash in LangkawiIn statement, two planes from an Indonesian aerobatics team collided and crashed today during a practice session before an air show on Malaysia’s Langkawi Island but all four pilots are safe.

In a statement from the Witness, the accident occurred when six KT-1B aircraft were crossing the MIEC air space before two of them collided in the air. Five aerobatic teams, including the AU-TNI, will be performing aerobatic displays during LIMA’15 exhibition, starting March 17 until March 21.

According to the report, the pilots survived the incident with varying injuries after ejecting from the planes, which grazed together in a flyover. They are being treated at the Langkawi Hospital after being rescued by the Fire and Rescue Services Department.

To the report from the authority, the pilots and co-pilots of the planes were found by rescue teams to have safely landed with their parachutes. One of the two planes fell on a house in Kampung Gelam, Kedawang. The two residents who were inside suffered minor injuries and were taken to Langkawi Hospital.

To the report from the ministry of Defense ministry, the Indonesian Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Air Force have formed a joint team to investigate the incident. Firefighters and the rescue team managed to douse the flames because the crash also set a house on fire.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and his Indonesian counterpart Ryamizard Ryacudu visited the pilots soon after the incident. Hussein visited them at the hospital and tweeted: “Thankful that all 4 pilots are safe, their spirits remained high.
