The British boxer has turned his attention towards Manny Pacquiao for what could be Khan’s greatest boxing match till date.
Amir Khan is seeking to book a fight with Manny Pacquiao in this winter, in the deserts of Abu Dhabi. After failing to secure a match with Floyd Mayweather even after trying for 2 consecutive years, Khan has finally given up hope and now switched his focus on the Filipino maestro.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Khan stated, “I want this fight. I would love to box Manny. We’ve been looking at an event in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is only a short drive away.”
“It’s a dream of mine to fight in that part of the world. Late November or December is perfect for me.”
For Khan, securing a match with Manny Pacquiao is potentially a make or break for his career because it could be his (Khan’s) last chance to go head to head with one of the greatest boxers of this era. “Floyd and Manny are getting closer to retirement and if I don’t fight one of them soon it may never happen.”
Floyd Mayweather has openly declared that boxing does not interest him anymore and wants to retire.
“I’m pretty much done with all this,” he (Floyd Mayweather) said. “It’s not fun like it was back then. It’s business now. I don’t really enjoy it any longer. (I’ll fight a) final one at the MGM Grand in September.”
Khan is actually backing Mayweather to win the epic contest on May 2nd.
“I actually think that once Mayweather gets through Manny’s assault in the first few rounds it will become an easy win for him”. “Manny has speed and power but Floyd has the defensive skill to avoid him and the brain and accuracy to keep picking him off as he comes in”.
Fortunately for Khan, Pacquiao is a couple of years younger than Mayweather and will most likely engage in a couple of more contests after their May 2nd encounter. Khan’s unrivaled popularity in the Muslim world obviously gives him the edge for landing a fight with the Filipino great, in the Middle East later this year.
