This is good news for the Wood’s fans and the well-wisher is that Woods’ season is starting to take some form. Jack Nicklaus announced that Woods would return to the Memorial in May recently. The tournament will mark his first competitive action since suffering a wrist injury at the Masters.
In the Masters Woods shot rounds of 73-69-68-73. In the final round, he injured his wrist while hitting a shot off the pine straw on the ninth hole. Two days later, his agent, Mark Steinberg, said the wrist was fine.
This reality that the 14-time major champion came the week after he had shot a career-worst 82 in missing the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open but he returned for the Masters with his troublesome short game looking in far better order as he finished in a tie for 17th.
Tournament host Jack Nicklaus said this week that Woods had told him he would play the Memorial from June 4-7 — Woods’ traditional tune-up for the year’s second major.
The former world number one Woods said on Twitter “Looking forward to going back to THE PLAYERS this year, hoping for a repeat of 2013,”
The 39-year-old, who made his return to competitive golf at the Masters following a two-month absence to work on his game, announced that he will compete at The Players Championship set to be held May 7-10.
In statement, Woods is a two-time winner of The Players Championship (2001, 2013). Woods’ last tour win also came in August 2013, when he won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
ESPN’s Jason Sobel & the expert believe that noted that Woods’ speedy return was a positive sign for Woods.
In addition, The US Open will be held June 18-21 at Chambers Bay in Washington State.
