In an event in San Francisco on Monday, Apple Inc. introduced their smart watch, which starts at $349 and can cost as much as $17,000. Apple said, the watch will help the users to make calls, read emails, control music and other activities.
In an statement Apple CEO Tim Cook said, the wrist watch will help the users 18 hours a day, as the battery life for Apple Watches are 18 hours.
Markets are suggesting that, this is one of the most expensive smart watches in the market. According to them, an android smartwatch from Motorola or Sony starts from $250. Consumers can also get a high-end smartwatch from Samsung like Gear S for $300 through AT&T excluding the data plan. But the cheapest one from Apple is $349. A stainless still version may cost $549 and a gold plated luxury edition can start from $10,000 and cost up to $17,000.
Market experts also saying that, the watch is also going to depend on the user’s iPhone, as it doesn’t have any cellular connection. The watch can receive and send call if the iPhone is nearby. The only smartwatches in the market have cellular connection are Samsung`s Gear S and upcoming LG watch Urbane LTE.
Critics are also saying that, Apples watches don’t have GPS for better distance tracking. Sony`s SmartWatch 3 and Gear S have GPS system in them, but the company said, their watches will use the users iPhone GPS for better tracking and running pattern.
Apple watches also didn’t receive a good review from the fashion industry either. In an interview with Reuter Up-and-coming model Julia Van Os dismissed the new device by saying, “I haven’t heard anyone talking about it. It’s a different world, it’s more technology rather than fashion. People don’t wear that kind of watch in fashion”.
New York based Luxury consultant Robert Burke from Robert Brooke Associates said, “Apple the Apple watch simply hasn’t resonated strongly in the fashion world”. He then added, “Apple has notably been targeting the fashion world leading up to its launch, but the watch still has an inherently tech focused sensibility”.
He explained, “The tech world and the watch world are very different. While there’s certainly a novelty and attraction to the [Apple Watch], so far it has appealed more so to the early tech adopters”.
