Authorities have informed that on Friday night, a man armed with a machete and wasp spray was caught storming through a security area at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport before being shot.

Richard White, 62, has been taken to hospital immediately where he had gone through a surgery, as stated by Jefferson Parish Sheriff, Newell Normand.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, this horrifying incident took place when White entered a security checkpoint for Concourse B and started spraying Transportation Security Administration and people all around with a can of wasp spray.

Not too later, White had pulled out a machete from his waistband and started swinging it towards agents and others near him.

One of the agents managed to block the machete with a piece of luggage as White went on chasing him through a security checkpoint metal detector. Right at the point, Lt. Heather Slyve of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office had no option but to open fire and shooting White on his chest, face and thigh.

A TSA agent unfortunately took a hit of the friendly fire when he was hit by Slyve in the shootout and has been treated without facing any life threatening injuries, as the TSA reports.

Numerous bystanders had suffered minor injuries, as some stumbled into furniture while hurrying to get of the way of this incident. According to Normand, a person was grazed in the arm by a bullet as well.

“We don’t know what the motivation is,” Normand said. “It is still early. We’re still running that out in order to try and determine anything about this particular individual.”

It was still unclear as to why White was present inside the airport, even though he was taxi driver who had not too long ago received his license.

According to Normand, White has a little criminal history which included some disturbing the peace charges and a few traffic tickets.

There is no evidence of any indication that this situation posed any kind of national security threat, confirms Normand.
