Etihad passenger flight diverted to military base for Security Reason: Flight from Cairo to Abu Dhabi at Al Minhad base

The airliner said, an Etihad flight which was supposed to fly from Cairo to the capital of United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, was canceled for security reasons. Flight no. 650 was diverted to Al Minhad air base. The passengers debarked after the flight was diverted to the military air base. Etihad is the national carrier in UAE.

Passengers will pass through additional security screening along with their luggage. The Etihad Airline authority reported that the flight no. 650 contained 128 passengers and 7 crew members on board. They also added that, the passengers will be sent to Abu Dhabi by bus after the extra security screening is complete at the military air base.

Etihad authority have not made available any news on the nature of the threat, but they have confirmed that they will release further information as quickly as possible.

On the other hand, Islamic State group related Twitter account have been releasing threatening messages involving airplanes, but they have never mentioned anything regarding the Etihad Flight, in particular.

Another jet liner of UAE reported that one of Air Arabia’s flight has been diverted to the Al-Minhad airbase when abruptly a passenger exclaimed that the plane is going to explode. This incident took place on Monday and the flight was routed to Sharjah from Kuwait. The State news operator WAM said that the airliner has dealt with the situation as per standard procedure and have not provided any further news without elaborating.

The Emirates is one the biggest ally of the U.S.-led coalition which is taking part in the airstrikes on the Islamic State group and have subjugated key areas like Iraq and Syria. Aviation is considered the most significant industry for countries rich in oil production. Emirates is the biggest carrier in the Middle East. Dubai International Airport is, however, the busiest airport with an immense traffic, full of passengers every day.

The incident took place on Sunday, and Etihad flight no. 650 was destined to Abu Dhabi Airport which is undertaking a major accommodation expansion for the rapid growth of Etihad’s numerous, bulk amount of flights.

The passengers on board will not be released without a thorough security screening. Reports have been released that the luggage will be checked with extra alert in mind. This clearly shows the airliner may have received hazardous information but they have not officially confirmed anything yet. The passengers with connecting flights will rebook on the next available flights and travel to their intended destinations after the screening is complete.
