Banner-towing plane collides on packed up California beach leaving two injured

Last Saturday approximately after 3 p.m. a Piper PA18 crashed on an extremely packed out beach in Southern California due to an engine failure. Even though it was a comparatively small plane, it went down on a beach swarming with people who came to celebrate the Fourth of July. According to the authorities two people were severely injured.

Ian Gregor, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration announced that the single-engine Piper PA18 hit the beach in Carlsbad due to sudden loss of engine power.

Immediately after landing, the aircraft which had been towing a banner, flipped over.

A supervising dispatcher with the Carlsbad Police Department, Matthew Pinell, mentioned that the pilot was rushed to the hospital with unspecified injuries. He further added that some other person present on the beach was also injured in the crash. His details was however not revealed.

A dispatcher with the North County Dispatch Joint Powers Authority shed some light regarding the matter by mentioning that the injured person was taken to a children’s hospital in San Diego.

Given the circumstance, since the beach was absolutely jam-packed for the Fourth of July celebration, the accident could have been much more detrimental.
