Police have reported the arrest of a Detroit mother on Tuesday after the frozen bodies of her children, a boy and girl were discovered in a deep freezer in the family’s residence.

The bodies have been discovered while the court officers were conducting an eviction order at the 3 bedroom residence of the family in an apartment complex located east of downtown. The police are waiting for an autopsy report to determine the cause of death.

Initially police were mistaken into believing that a woman’s body was found in the freezer, but later confirmed it was two children’s bodies in a plastic bag.

The girl was 14-year-old while the boy was 11-year-old, said police Chief James Craig, calling this incident a “terrible find.”

The woman was not in the apartment when the authorities arrived there. Craig said “One of the community members here … approached our officers and advised that they knew where the parent was located.”

The mother was found in an apartment close by and was questioned. Later on Tuesday, she had been arrested although her name has not been released.

The woman’s two other children, ages 11 and 17 had been found at a neighbor’s home and have been placed in a protective custody.

Neighbor and friend Tori Childs said that she has not seen the other two children in almost a year now. “I haven’t seen them since they were playing with my step-kids,” Childs said.

Tori Child’s mother, Carrie McDonald, also residing in a low-income housing complex, said she had spoken with the 36-year old mother on the phone on Tuesday morning. She told McDonald on the phone, “Ms Carrie, if you don’t ever see me again just know that I love you.”McDonald said. “I love her. The mother is a beautiful person. She was just going through some things.”

The four children of the woman were not admitted in Detroit schools and according to friends; they were being home-schooled by the mother.

“She took her kids out of school because she thought something was going to happen to them,” McDonald said.

The woman had been living in this complex for about 10 years now. She was unemployed and had financial problems and therefore gotten behind on the rent. Her friends did know about the impending eviction.

“She was really behind, but she didn’t have it,” Childs said, referring to money to pay the rent.

The court has shown a judgment filed last month against the woman for $2,206 that she owed to the apartment complex.

Investigators were organizing information for the Wayne County’s prosecutor’s office for pressing charges.
