Todd J. Vasos has been elected as the new CEO of Dollar General Corporation, a chain of US variety stores. The Board of Directors also made Vasos a part of the board and this took the total number of directors on the board to nine.
The lead director of this company, Mike Calbert, said that this appointment was going to help ensure these stores continue to improve as far as strategy and leadership is concerned, a sound strategy which has helped them slowly move to the top half of retail conglomerates
Vasos’ appointment has become effective immediately and he confirmed his commitment to working on building on the commitment of the former Chairman & CEO, Rick Dreiling who recently announced he was retiring along with succession plans. Dreiling is going to still on the board of directors for the rest of his term and will be serving as a senior advisor & chairman of the board until his contract expires on the 29th of January 2016.
Vasos passed out of Hoggard high school and joined this retail store chain in December of 2008 as the Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising Officer and Division President. He was then promoted to Chief Operating Officer in November of 2013. Before joining this conglomerate, he had served in multiple executive positions at the Longs Drug Stores Corporation.
At his peak with Longs Drug Stores, he was managing all their pharmacy and front end marketing, procurement, merchandising, advertising, supply chain, store layout, space allocation, store development and operation of three of their distribution centers. He had held leadership positions at Drug Inc. Eckerd Corporation and Phar-Mor Food before this.
Todd J. Vasos has a very good reputation of serving in various leadership positions in the pharmaceutical and retail industry. A statement was released by office a little while ago where he claimed that he was excited as well honored to be given the opportunity to guide Dollar General. He also thanked Rick Dreiling for his advice as a friend and mentor. He said that they were only able to deliver exceptional results under his leadership.
