Microsoft made an announcement late on Friday stating that game streaming to Windows 10 PC’s from the Xbox One is no longer in preview and is open to everyone who has the latest build of Windows 10 (Build 10240).
Microsoft even said that it was planning a number of feature updates for the Xbox app in the coming days including an ability which would allow the app to mine old PC games & add them to its collection.
Game streaming can relay gameplay from the Xbox One to a PC. This will allow gamers to play games on their PC directly from the Xbox if their family is taking up the TV.
There are a couple of ways in which this can be considered beneficial. Firstly, it helps tie the Microsoft ecosystem together. And secondly, it’s really awesome.
Earlier game streaming was just a preview application and needed users to run special preview versions of the Xbox One dashboard in order to access it. But after the update, users just need the latest version of Windows 10 and the Xbox app.
Game streaming will need to be enabled both on the Xbox One as well as the Windows 10 PC for this to work. You may require to manually enter the IP address of your console here but the overall setup process is pretty simple.
Once you are connected, you can simply choose a game that is part of your collection & select to play it from console or just use the native Xbox One menu. You will need an Xbox One or an Xbox 360 controller to be connected to your tablet or PC for this to work though.
Microsoft is going to be adding fresh capabilities to its Xbox app throughout this month. Updates will add support for older games which will allow gamers to display older games in their collection. Game clips & screen shots will also be allowed to be uploaded to Xbox Live from Windows Store games.
