According to the report, the wife of former UFC fighter Corey Hill confirmed to TMZ Sports on Friday that her husband had passed away after battling a devastating illness. He was a high school state champion wrestler on multiple occasions in Florida and a two-time National Finalist college wrestler. However, as of late Thursday afternoon, Hill’s wife had said that contrary to reports, Hill was still alive and fighting for his life. “He was without oxygen for a period of time, and of course, with the lack of oxygen does come damage to the brain”.
Hill’s injury was similar to the one suffered by former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. His wife and three children survive Hill.
In a statement, Hill was a part of the fifth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” in which he competed alongside a laundry list of top names including Nate Diaz, Joe Lauzon and Gray Maynard.
Lauren Hill’s wife told TMZ Sports in confirming her husband’s death. On another report she said, “Corey was a loving husband and devoted father,” “He was such a strong role model for our children, and would do anything to keep them safe and happy and healthy.
After getting the Death news, The UFC family mourns the tragic loss of Corey Hill, who passed away on May 14 due to complications from pneumonia at the age of 36,” the UFC said in a statement on Thursday, the day before Hill’s actual death.
In his career Hill (6-9), most recently fought in February at a regional event, losing via first-round TKO. After suffering a horrific leg break in 2008 at a UFC event, he returned to the cage in 2010 and fought 11 professional bouts with a 4-7 record. His overall professional record was 6-9. Hill fought on Season 5 of the reality series, ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ and competed three times in the organization, going 1-2 in 2008.
In Addition, Pat Miletich, a former UFC champion and member of its Hall of Fame spoke to Yahoo Sports about Hill’s reported death. Miletich coached Hill and the two had become close. Miletich told Yahoo Sports he thought that Hill, who was 6-9 in his mixed martial arts career, was talented enough to win the lightweight title.
