According to the latest reports, Phoenixville police department has adopted a new strategy to protect its repute among the general public. The Phoenixville police department is currently testing different body cameras to be worn on by the police officers in the future. Although the department is already using mounted cameras on its vehicles but still due to some particular reasons it felt the need for body cameras.

According to the Phoenixville police department, the police department has been facing many severe blames across places like Ferguson, Baltimore, Mo., North Charleston, S.C. and New York City. Many videos showing police officers engaged in verbal abuse and physical violence were rotating among the general public. Not only were these videos enraging the local communities but they were also becoming a base for public protests and riots. The main issue was that, according to the Police Chief William Mossman, these videos were not showing the complete story and were conveying negative message.

Police Chief further stated, “We’re always getting people’s cell phone cameras of our officers out there doing it, and all the good stuff gets erased. You get the two seconds of the punch, or the knee, or the trip, or whatever it was and the 42 minutes of negotiating with the guy-that’s not part of it.”

At the initial stage, the department has started testing the eyeglass cameras. The main reason behind testing these cameras is that the police officer could easily record anything that he is seeing with his eyes. The major issue that aroused at this stage was for the camera to be approved by the Pennsylvania Bulletin. Police Chief further stated, “If it’s not in that Bulletin, we can’t use it, the glasses that we bought were not on the Bulletin.”

The department further tested a box-shaped camera that was to be worn on the chest but the problem with that camera was that it was unable to record each and every detail. Police chief is very excited to test the latest version of the camera that could be worn on the lapel or could also be worn on the ear piece of your eyeglasses, as this camera is a simple pen shaped device.
