Greenpeace calls for more reliance on renewable energy

The only thing left to do with fossil fuels is in the non-energy sector like steel making and petrochemicals.

A new Greenpeace worldwide report along with the GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council) showed that the energy sector can go forward with 100% renewable energy. They said “In the United States, we must prioritize keeping coal, oil and gas in the ground while accelerating the transition to clean energy like wind and solar”

Greenpeace says that the starting point for this 100% renewable scenario is agreeing to binding emission reductions at the Paris conference as part of the UNFCCC process. This would help create jobs & also ensure the planet is healthier in the future.

They said that lobbying shouldn’t be allowed to stand in the way of changing to renewable energy, the fairest & most effective way of delivering a clean & safe future for energy.

The wind industry could employ 8 million people by 2030 which is 10 times more than it employs today and twice as many as the gas & oil industry employs right now.

In 2014, 19% of the electricity in Britain was generated using renewable energy which is 5% higher than 2013.

Since renewables don’t require any fuel, the savings should be around $ 1.07 trillion per year. The cost of the transition will be met by these savings eventually with the equation crossing over sometime around 2025 & 2030. Countries where renewables are being deployed rapidly like India, China and Brazil, CO2 emissions may just go down by one-third.

It needs to be done and it will benefit everyone when it is done.
