The new service from HBO comes after a number of media, telecom and technology companies offered similar services. In recent time Dish Network unveiled a $20 a month new web-based service that includes ESPN and a number of other popular networks for their consumers. Sony and CBS also began offering internet only subscription plans.

Market experts are saying that the companies are trying to stay with the generation where the consumers will pay for internet subscription but not for traditional TV subscription.
