The U.S. Border Patrol agents in a part of Texas have been observing a very distressing situation. There has been an alarming increase in the number of sex offenders who are trying to get into the country unlawfully.
Only in the last five months, the number of sex offenders trying to jump cross the border from Mexico has been a whopping 144, as stated by agents from Rio Grande Valley Sector. Last year during the same period the agents have caught about 93 of them attempting to slip into the country.
This area which has been utilized by sex offenders starts from Rio Grande City to Brownsville on the border along with Corpus Christi
As reported on Friday, the station has apprehended a woman from El Salvador with a child sexual assault conviction dated on 2009 along with 3 sex offenders of Mexican nationality. These people were caught on December and taken into custody.
7 sex offenders were caught around McAllen, Harlingen, Falfurrias and Kingsville as of February and in less than a week, 2 more were caught.
A couple of days back 2 Guatemalan men offenders of sex crimes were taken into custody.
Earlier in March, the border patrol have gotten hold of 2 convicted sex offenders in the another border of South Texas called Del Rio.
The second convict was arrested on March 4th by patrols that were in a ranch around Rio Grande River. According to agents, Jose Margarito Rivera-Mendez, 35, who is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico had the history of felony regarding indecency with a child in North Carolina in the year 2003. He had been given a sentence of 15-18 months of confinement and has been deported in 2005 after serving time.
Rio Sector Chief Rodolfo Karisch said after the arrest, “Our agents are committed to keeping the country safe. Apprehending criminals previously convicted of felonies, as they attempt to enter the United State illegally, is one of the many ways we accomplish our mission.”
Border Patrol has access to database which search criminal records on a global basis. Agents are aided with technology that scans fingerprints, scans retinas and also has facial recognition.
