The Apple Watch is out. But only for those who have ordered online before April 11. For the rest of us we might have to wait till July for delivery because Apple is only taking orders over the internet only.
Setting up your Apple Watch:
You need your iPhone to be updated to at-least iOS 8.2 and the password for your Apple ID account.
After selecting the language on the watch press the “Start Pairing” option in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Your watch and iPhone will start to sync all of your contacts, apps, calendar entries and notes. It should take somewhere around 9 – 14 minutes to sync up everything depending upon the volume of content.
You can customize the settings in your Apple Watch by going to the “My Watch” in your iPhone. You can select specific contacts on your email list to be “VIPs” so that only their message will be displayed on your watch.
The dial on your watch aka ‘Digital Crown’ is your access to toggling between the watch interface and apps menu. Pressing the dial lightly lets you toggle between screens and double pressing it brings your list of recently used apps. The dial functions smoothly when you slide your finger over it instead of trying to turn it like a conventional dial. Press the dial long enough and you will have Siri at your service.
Swiping down will give you the latest notifications and up will bring highlights from weather, stock quotes and calendar.
Lightly touching the icons of the apps lets you interact with them and pressing hard, otherwise known as ‘Force Touch’, will activate other functions. Best way to learn the new the gestures in the Apple Watch is to try and experiment with it until you get a hang of things.
Taking a screenshot of your watch is pretty easy as it is similar to how we do it on our iPhones. Lightly pressing both the buttons on your watch simultaneously will capture a screenshot and it will pop up in your iPhone’s Photo app.
Another cool feature is how the watch will use the GPS sensor on your iPhone to calibrate your steps and accurately measure the distance on your workouts. You can also pay at retail stores by enabling mobile payment system from your “Passbook and Apple Pay” app on your iPhone. Once activated, you can make payments without even having your iPhone on you.
