Lyme disease symptoms and outdoor ticks warning for safety precautions to Onondaga County residents“Avoid the tick is the first thing you want to do. So look at the habitat for the ticks and do not venture into it,” is what Onondaga Health Department Medical Director Dr. Quoc Nyuien said.

According to experts, if an adult or a child has been outdoors, then the best option for a person is to do a tick check by meticulously examining the entire body.

If by any chance a person comes across a tick on himself/herself then one has to remove it quickly. Just in case it was you who had found a tick on yourself and are unsure for how long you have several ticks on you, then you must contact your provider. Nyuien has said that ticks get as big as sesame seeds and therefore most of the times it is very difficult to see them.

Lyme disease has other symptoms such as bullseye-like rash around the bite, headache, fever or muscle and joint aches. And the experts say that the disease is usually seen in the late spring and early summer as at that time the nymph ticks are active and feeding.

The treatment for Lyme disease is possible when it is caught at an early stage, otherwise it can proceed to the joints, the nervous systems or even the heart.

In 2014, Onondaga Country had reported of 35 confirmed cases of Lyme disease. Although, according to health officials, the actual number had been nearly twice as much. That reason behind that is some people got misdiagnosed or somehow had been unable to seek medical treatment.

It is advised that people are clothed in long pants and sleeves when outdoors to protect themselves from tick bites which eventually turns into Lyme disease. It is also advised that one check body parts after partaking in outdoor activities so that they can identify possible exposure to ticks, if there had been any. It is preferable that individuals wear bug repellant and also dress in light-colored clothing to protect them.
