After the brutal shoot-out at a pair of military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Republican presidential candidates Jeb Bush, Donald Trump and Scott Walker spoke against the ban on service members carrying firearms in military recruiting centers. Bush said that an attack on America’s military force is nothing uncommon as this is America’s power, and they should do everything in their power to overcome this vulnerability.
Scott Walker, the Wisconsin’s governor, said the recent negative activity of ISIS have totally changed the view point. He said that such organization has shown that threats come not only from abroad, but also domestically, so arming their heroes who are protecting their nation is a compulsory.
Donald Trump said that the Tennessee shooting has further showed the needed to provide guns at military facilities. The shooting took the lives of four Marines while injuring a sailor and another Marine. Trump pointed out that these people are skilled with firearms and could have defended themselves well enough if they had a defense in the first place. He said that at least some of the lost soldiers could have been still alive if they had guns with them.
Bush said these attacks should signify the need to act aggressively with the outside world. These losses needs to stop by providing the right protection for the nations heroes. People would have known if the Marines were armed, which could have stopped the attack altogether. When outside people understand that these soldiers aren’t carrying any firearms, they instantly become easy targets which are more of a personal blow to America, says Bush.
The Army chief of staff Gen. Ray Odierno said last Friday that the security routine and footage will be reviewed for more information about the shooting but also added that maybe it was too early for any guards to be present at the premises at that time. He also told reporters that the arming troops assigned to those offices may cause more hassle rather than giving a possible solution.
