Scientist argue that Dulse is the tastiest healthy substitute for bacon

Food lovers don’t have to choose between healthiness and tastiness any more.

As most people who are used to eating kale leaves just to try and lose some weight, it certainly is hard to not harbor thought of pizza, cheeseburgers & bacon.

But at least a few of these cravings may be no more as per Oregon State University researchers.

One of the researchers at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, Chris Langdon has managed to create a new dulse strain. This is basically a seaweed which has amazing nutritional benefits. And more importantly, it tastes just like bacon.

The powder from this is added to smoothies in Europe and flakes are added to food as per Langdon. There isn’t too much interest in using it in its fresh form though. But it really is amazing. On frying, it tastes like bacon and pretty strong bacon that too.

It is a great source for minerals, antioxidants and vitamins and has a lot of protein as well. It may just be the solution to all our problems.

Dulse is basically a superfood and has twice as much the nutritional value as kale. This variety can also be farmed and is a new industry with a lot of potential for the state of Oregon.

Another advantage of Dulse is that it grows quite fast as compared to other sources of food like livestock which is very expensive for rearing.

Langdon also said that it can easily be cultivated in any areas which have sufficient seawater and a little sunshine.

As per the article by OSU, there are a number of chefs from Portland and the Portland Food Innovation Center which have already begun experimenting with this new ingredient.

But the main acid test will only be when it is put on a cheeseburger which will move it a little closer to being called a guilt-free, delicious snack.
