Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic welcomed by ‘snowfall’ on the first day of SpringAmericans all across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic were anticipated to witness snow on the very first day of spring which is Friday. It was predicted that they would see snow piled up to about 5 inches as forecasted in a number of major cities.

The winter storm was already pouring powdered snow on some areas of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia in the wee hours of Friday. It was projected that by afternoon, it would shift to NYC, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

According to The Weather Channel, weather advisories had been posted all across 8 states prior to the official start of spring at 6:45 pm ET. New York City and Philadelphia has last witnessed measurable snowfalls on the very first day of spring back in the year 1965.

Michael Palmer, the lead forecaster of the Weather Channel has said that “It’s a fitting end to what has been a snowy winter. Most people will likely be glad to see the back of the season.”

The heaviest snow has been estimated to fall down on Friday afternoon with a forecast of 1 to 3 inches in Baltimore and Philadelphia and 5 to 8 inches at upper altitudes of Pennsylvania. New York has the probability of seeing something about 3 to 5 inches.

Boston, on the other hand, which has broken its all-time record for snowfall this season, has somehow managed to not be part of this storm, as it appears.

The Weather Channel reports that chilly temperatures between 5 and 15 degrees below the average temperature have been predicted to come hand in hand with the snow.

Palmer also said that the icy weather has been anticipated to travel up north to the Canadian Maritimes by the early hours of Saturday with the possibility of intensifying even further and causing potential blizzards.
