President Obama is going to become to first chief executive in power ever to make a trip to a federal prison next week when he visits El Reno, Oklahoma to meet law enforcement & inmates as a part of his administrations push for criminal-justice reforms.
The press secretary of the White House, Josh Earnest, said on Friday that the president is going to be underscoring the focus of the administration on reforming & improving the criminal justice system in the country.
Obama will be addressing the NAACP conference on Tuesday in Philadelphia before visiting the medium-security federal facility on Thursday. As per the Federal Bureau of Prisons, this facility is home to 1301 inmates including 248 that are in a minimum-security satellite camp alongside the main prison.
The president will be part of an interview with Vice which will be made into a documentary that will air on HBO later this year.
Shane Smith, the vice founder, who will also be hosting this special, said that the documentary was going to be a fascinating one. He said that this documentary would give viewers an opportunity to get a first-hand look at how Obama is looking at this problem right from the policy level all the way down to the one on one conversations he has with the men & the women that are a part of this reality.
The president is also supposed to give executive orders the following week which will commute the sentences of multiple nonviolent drug offenders.
Brooklyn based, Vice Media, had hired a former aide at the White House, Alyssa Mastromonaco, to be its COO last November.
Since this happened, Vice has managed to get an interview with president Obama where he spoke about everything from the United States’ strategy for fighting the Islamic State to marijuana legalization.
