Shooting at Delaware State University – 3 shot, injured at school-sanctioned fraternity and sorority cookout

It has been reported by the Delaware State University officials what three people had been shot on campus during a student event.

Carlos Homes, university spokesman stated that the shooting took place around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at a school-sanctioned fraternity and sorority cookout.

The three injured people had been taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover without any life-threatening injuries, according to Holmes. University president Harry L. Williams stated in a news release that the identity of the people have not been released and it is unclear if they were Delaware State students or not.

As of 11:00 p.m. Saturday, no arrests have been made, as William mentioned and students have been told to stay inside their dormitories and outsiders had been asked to leave the campus grounds.

“The safety of our students continues to be paramount and our police will aggressively continue their investigation until an arrest or arrests are made in this shooting incident,” Williams said.

The investigation is being lead by DSU campus with Dover Police Department, Delaware State Police and other agencies assisting them.

Last year, in early November, a student had been shot near the campus at a residence hall and according to authorities the case had been an isolated act. Two people were charged for the shooting.

Delaware State University is a historically black university with students more than 4,100 students, which includes both part-timers and full-timers.
