A person with a suspicious package in his possession scaled a White House fence on Sunday night, but had been apprehended within a short time.
According to Brian Leary with the United States Secret Service, this person climbed the fence on the southern side of the White House complex at around 10:25 p.m.
The person has been taken into custody although the charges remain pending. Neither the name of the person, nor the gender has been released.
A Secret Service Agent informed the Associated Press that the package had been examined and later considered to be of no harm.
Just a week ago, a U.S. White House official has stated that they may be adding temporary steel spikes to the tips of the White House perimeter fence to so that jumpers are put off.
If such a measure it carried out, then that will only be a temporary one to protect the grounds until a permanent one is implemented.
The official also mentioned that this proposal has not been in place so far.
The reputation of the Secret Service has been under heavy criticism following the two incidents which compromised the security of the grounds of the White House.
The incident of March 4th was indeed a nuisance when 2 senior Secret Service agents who had been reported drunk had driven their car into a White House barrier. In September 2014, a man jumped the White House fence and made it as far as an unlocked door of the White House.
