A 2 year old baby girl has died after being left in a hot car when her family overlooked her while returning home from an outing.

The parents of the 2-year old Nariyah Raufu explained that they had returned from a Fair Day with their children and proceeded to enter their duplex home on Garden Terrace Drive to take an afternoon nap. The parents apparently thought all the children had exited the vehicle.

The grieving mother, Khalilah Busby blames herself completely. “I forgot to count each and every one of my babies,” said the mother of seven. “Just count your babies.”

According to Child Abuse Unit investigators, the parents took the word of one of the children when they asked whether everyone was at home or not. They did not check the SUV themselves to ensure that all seven children had exited the vehicle.

After the girl’s father woke up from the afternoon nap, he went down to work on his vehicle and saw his baby girl strapped to the child safety seat. Nariyah had been strapped there for at-least an hour and a half. The father immediately pulled the girl from the vehicle and called 911 while her mother began CPR. However the girl was declared dead when she arrived in the hospital.

Nationwide, nine children have passed away so far after being left in hot cars in 2015, according to data released from the Department of Meteorology at San Jose University. More than 80% of the temperature spike happens within the first 10 minutes of the vehicle being shut off.

Not surprisingly the family had put a note on their door stating that they were in mourning and would not participate in any interviews whatsoever, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).

The girl’s cause of death was not officially released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner till Saturday. Child Protective Services has been notified but no charges were filed according to police.

  1. I am sorry for this family’s loss, but come on parents that child was YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, not one of your children’s place to be responsible.

Yes your baby is dead, because you were IRRESPONSIBLE! You are going to have to live with this and your children are always going to be wondering if you are blaming them privately. It is a parent that raises kids, stop having so many if you can’t give individual attention to them. Everyone ALWAYS has an excuse.

    • Did you not only read, but understand, what was in this article? Not once did the parents “blame” anyone else and from what I read, took full responsibility for this tragedy. So the impact of that, combined with your asinine rant which is totally off-base, makes for an incorrect and observationally ignorant viewpoint. Think twice before you commit to writing because it makes your stupid really show…

      • Adam Bosworth on

That doesn’t excuse their negligence. A child is dead. Of course they took responsibility. That child’s death is their responsibility.

    • @MissV: you said: “Everyone ALWAYS has an excuse.”

Nobody has come up with an excuse for you, clod…

    • You must be young…ignorant…or just plain stupid about life. How hurtful you are. Think outside your box for once.

  2. Both parents should cf eel like lower than s*$# and have the rest of their under aged kids taken they are despicable parents and deserve jail not counting all 7 of your kids is not an excuse and grieving doenst give you a pass as a parent to get off Scott free her stupid ass layed down and had 7 f-in kids that’s she/they didn’t need and obviously didn’t deserve and out of neglect one is dead and because it was a so called accident they get a pass
