According to multiple sources, The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are close to a deal with the Rangers to send injured outfielder Josh Hamilton back to Texas. The Angels work on a deal to send him back to the Texas Rangers. He admitted to relapsing and abusing drugs and alcohol in February is going to be sent back to his former team, the Texas Rangers.
Last season, In the MLB the 33-year-old appeared in only 89 games, hampered by a variety of shoulder injuries. He underwent surgery in February to repair an AC joint in his right shoulder and is currently in an extended spring training in Florida.
In his career, Hamilton played for Texas during 2008-2012 and was an All Star each year. In 2010, he was both the AL regular-season MVP and the ALCS MVP.
In a statistics, The Rangers are expected to pay around $15 million of the more than $80 million that is owed to Hamilton through 2017, with the Angels paying the difference, sources said.
To the report from the Angels, The first step is the Angels finalizing a way out of their commitment to Hamilton. The Rangers could send a token amount of cash to the Angels, who would eat the bulk of the $83 million left on Hamilton’s contract which runs through 2017.
In a statement, the professional baseball outfielder signed with the Angels before the 2013 season on a five-year deal worth $125 million. However, he has struggled in LA, batting .255 and hitting 31 home runs in his two seasons there after batting .305 and averaging 28 homers a year in his five years in Texas.
In addition, Hamilton has not played this season following surgery to repair the AC joint in his right shoulder. It is unclear when he is expected to join the Rangers should the deal be finalized.
