Wimbledon 2015 Championship: Djokovic vs Anderson

0

Kevin Anderson, the giant South African, faced Novak Djokovic on Court One at Wimbledon today. The 6ft 8in player reached the final at the Queen’s Club leading up to Wimbledon and managed to win the first two sets against the Serbian in what was shaping up to be a giant upset. But the 2014 champion, Djokovic, wasn’t going to give up that easily.

After losing the first couple of sets 6-7, 6-7, Djokovic thrashed Anderson in the third set 6-1 to show why he was the defending champion. Anderson put up some more fight in the fourth set by taking the score to 5-4 before finally succumbing to the Serb’s serve to lose the game and the set, 6-4. Djokovic had three set points to play with and even though he lost the first one to an amazing return from Anderson to leave Djokovic with two set points. But Djokovic wrapped things up in the next point with an amazing forehand across the court that Anderson could do nothing about.

Three hours were up and Djokovic was finally back at par with Anderson. The next set was going to determine the victor. But the umpire had some bad news for everyone, bad weather had caused the play to be suspended. The match was not going to be moved to the Centre Court so that it could be finished under lights either. Instead, the match is now going to be concluded tomorrow. This may spell trouble for Djokovic as it will give Anderson some much needed rest which he sorely needed towards the end of the fourth set. Will Djokovic be able to overcome this giant competitor tomorrow when play resumes or will Anderson make sure the defending champion doesn’t even make it into the quarter finals? You’ll have to tune in tomorrow to find out.
