Now strangers can directly message each other on TwitterAll the Twitter users could now receive direct messages from any stranger through the platform of Twitter. According to the latest update, Twitter has proudly announced that now all of its users could receive direct messages from one another even if they are not following each other. Twitter further stated this Monday that its direct messaging option, through which users were allowed to communicate with each other, had a single restriction according to which you could only communicate with each other if you have been following that person. But now according to the recent developments, all the Twitter users are able to easily communicate with any person on Twitter, even if they have not been following that person.

This feature has remained in experimental phase for many years; even in 2013 this feature was made available for a small percentage of Twitter users. But now after severe pressure from Wall Street investors, Twitter made this feature common in order to attract more and more users towards this social media platform.

The feature of receiving direct messages would only be available if you properly opt for it. If you are a regular twitter user then you could easily opt for this option by going into the settings menu and turn on the option of receiving direct messages. If you are using twitter on your Apple’s iOS or Android then activating this feature would be much easier for you as a direct messages button would have appeared on profiles.

If after switching on the option of receive direct messages you face the issue of receiving spam or abusing messages, then all you have to do is to block the sender from sending you these types of messages.

After making the announcement for this latest feature, Twitter further posted this Monday,

“We continue to invest in our private channel to lay the foundation for a powerful and engaging messaging experience.”

This recent development took place at such a time when Twitter was facing severe threat from its competitors. Other widely used direct messaging apps such as Snapchat and WhatsApp were continuously growing the percentage of their daily users due to their outstanding features and services. Currently, WhatsApp is widely used by 800 million users while Snapchat reported the number of its users to be around 200 million, while Twitter only has 288 million actives on a monthly basis.

This feature world prove very useful for large corporations, celebrities and journalists who would now be able to answer the questions of common people through direct messaging without even feeling the need to follow that person.
