A small passenger airplane made a drop from above, grazing the hood of a tractor-trailer crashing into an Atlanta interstate on Friday, and has killed 4 people aboard and caused a severe fire on the busy highway.

Not too long after its takeoff from the DeKalb Peachtree Airport, the Piper PA-32 faced trouble, as stated by the Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Kathleen Bergen.

One of the witnesses of the accident, motorist Don McGhee, 48, said, he had seen the aircraft almost hit a traffic light-pole near the highway on-ramp.

“It looked like it was struggling. You could see him trying to get the nose of the plane up. It was edging up, and then it just dropped. It was just a huge fire, just smoke and fire.” McGhee said.

The blaze had prevented people on the ground to go and help the victims of the accident according to witnesses. Gerald Smith, a truck driver tried but could not. He said as the aircraft was making its drop, he had just enough time to slam on his brakes and saw the plane dive in low towards the his tractor’s passenger door.

Smith said, “It grazed my hood, and the next thing I knew, I looked over to my left, and that plane had crashed against the median wall. I first started to walk over there, but it was blazing up, and there was no way to help anybody try to get out of the plane. I just turned and dropped my head and walked away.”

Eric Jackson, DeKalb Fire Capt. reported that all 4 people on board died in the crash although the names of the victims have not been released by the authorities. The plane almost hit a vehicle which was being driven by a former DeKalb County firefighter.

Jackson told the reporters that, “It’s a miracle, literally a miracle, that no other cars were hit.”

The federal investigators said that they would be reconstructing the plane in order to determine the cause of the aircraft going down like this. Eric Alleyne of the National Transportation Safety Board said that it would take approximately 2 weeks to reconstruct the charred aircraft.
