Power Station problem leads to power outage in Washington D.C. – Blackout in White HouseSevere power outage has caused a blackout in Washington D.C. on Tuesday. This incident has been caused because of faulty power line Maryland, south of Washington. This incident has even caused White House and other government building to lose power for a few hours.

This sudden power outage affected the University of Maryland and a few World Bank Offices and disrupted the life of about 2,000 customers all over the Washington region. According to both local and U.S officials, it had been informed that the power disruption has occurred due to a small explosion at a power substation in southern Maryland.

The fire had been put out, as fire extinguishers had been brought in within half an hour of the explosion. Fire & EMS department’s public information officer, Bill Smith has informed the public that fortunately there had been no injuries. “The power has been shut down [at the station]. Any fires that we had are out,” he said.

Everything was back to normal by 2 p.m. when the power had been restored, SMECO tweeted.

The interference of any terrorist group had been ruled out by Smith. It had been informed by an official from the Department of Homeland Security. “At this time, there is no indication that this outage is the result of any malicious activity.”

A spokesman for Pepco has also informed that the company is aware of the situation and as of now investigation is still being conducting to find out what has caused the outage.

Spokeswoman from the Capitol Hill Police Kim Schneider has said that the power has been restored and preparation is so that any such outage can be dealt with future in a better way.

“As Pepco attempts to resolve the problem, we are prepared for any further power outages and/or surges that may occur,” she said.

Four museums in D.C. had been vacated following the power disruptions.
