Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight champion has been released from prison on bond after he turned himself into the police in Albuquerque, New Mexico after being involved in a hit-and-run incident.

The Police Department in Albuquerque reported via Twitter that they had Jones in custody on Monday night while the UFC acknowledged this fact while commenting that they were still gathering facts on what happened.

Jones is currently facing a charge of felony as confirmed to ESPN by Tanner Tixier, spokesman for the Albuquerque police department. He also confirmed that the pregnant woman driving the car which Jones allegedly hit has a broken arm & an injured wrist. The arrest warrant states that the woman will undergo an ultrasound to check on the baby on Tuesday.

This is in contradiction to the earlier statement which said that the woman didn’t suffer any serious injuries. A broken arm is definitely serious.

Jones is currently being charged for leaving the crime scene which is a felony and has the potential to carry jail time as well. Before it was learnt that the 25 year old woman was injured, he was just facing a misdemeanor charge and nothing more.

As per the police, there are witnesses who say they saw someone that looked like Jones leaving the scene in a silver SUV which earlier struck the woman’s car. Before fleeing, the assailant grabbed a large bundle of cash from his car and shoved it into his pants. This vehicle as a rental and a marijuana pipe loaded with marijuana was found inside it as well. There were no other drugs in the car.

Jones, with a record of 21-1 is supposed to defend his title against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on the 23rd of May in Las Vegas. The UFC hasn’t announced any changes to this card so far and Johnson hasn’t been informed of any changes in his opponent either.

There is no response from the Jones camp regarding the incident although Jones has earlier been arrested for driving under the influence in May 2012 when he banged his car into a pole in New York. He pleaded guilty then and got away with a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge and managed to stay out of jail.

Jones has managed to defend his belt eight times already ad is the youngest UFC champion in history. Let’s hope he gets out of this and can focus on his career once again.
