Samsung: Proves its Dominance in Smartphone Sales Again. Believes profits to sky-rocket in Q2

Samsung is officially the market leader in smart phones in the first quarter of 2015, according to results from Strategy Analytics.

Samsung has a market share of 24 % (by shipping more than 83.2 million units) in comparison to Apple’s 17.7 % (by shipping more than 61.2 million units) in the opening quarter of 2015. Having a gap of around 6.3 % between 1st and 2nd position in global Smartphone sales is a phenomenal feat in itself.

Samsung reported a profit of $ 5.64 billion (around 6 trillion won) for the January-March quarter.

The company’s operating profit for its mobile unit spiked to 2.74 trillion won, in the opening quarter.

What is even more scary is that the South Korean giant firmly believes that their profits will sky-rocket in the coming quarter, ending this June, due to seemingly ‘exponential’ increase in demand for the S6 edge.

Park Jin Young, Vice President of Samsung commented that the demand for the S6 edge is better than their ‘best-case scenario’.

Although the share prices of Samsung slipped during the last few weeks, due to rising concerns that the sale of its S6 was not going as per their expectations, but company personnel dismissed any signs of worry for their investors because of two reasons. First, the demand of the S6 edge is on the rise and secondly any supple related issues that might have been present for the S6 during the opening quarter is gone now.

According to Daewoo Securities Analyst, Jonathan Hwang, Samsung is currently the pack-leader by a significant margin in the global Android based Smart-phone (high-end) race.

Apple had the lead on Samsung in the lst quarter of 2014, by selling more than 74.8 million units while the Android based Samsung Smart-phones amounted 73 million. iPhone’s 6 popularity helped Apple beat Samsung in terms of market share but all that is changed now with the Samsung S6 edge leading the pack.

At the end of the first quarter of 2015, Apple and Samsung can proudly claim that these two giants are still the leaders in the global Smart-phone industry with no competition from other brands what so ever.
