Kobe Bryant says retirement is not on his mind right now

Kobe Bryant is going to be facing questions about his retirement regularly over the next 7 months. Is this going to be his last season in the NBA? He is currently entering his 20th season with the Lakers at age 37 which is a record for the most number of seasons spent with a single franchise. This was the main topic he had to deal with over and over again at the media day on Monday.

He repeated the message he was delivering throughout the off season saying that he hadn’t made any decisions yet & wasn’t sure of what was going to sway him and in which direction.

He said that if it happens, it will. If it doesn’t he will be ready for the next season. He doesn’t spend a lot of time thinking on it.

He suffered season-ending injuries thrice in the past and has been in recovery for 9 months now after he had a torn rotator cuff which ended his last season after only 35 games.

He said that he was excited to be playing again with younger players while helping them and showing them all he’s learnt in his career.

Phil Jackson, the president of the NY Knicks, who had coached Bryant to 5 championships over 11 years at the Lakers said that Bryant may just be able to play more than this season as well.

Bryant said he had spoken with other players who recently retired about the experience including Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees.

Bryant said he didn’t want any farewell tours either. He wasn’t distracted when people speculated about his future though.
