Red Sox win 5-1, Yankees still searching for 10000th win

The Yankees could have won their 10000th game when they were up against the Red Sox last night but Ivan Nova could not retain the 1 run lead they had and the offense didn’t get anything going post the 1st innings. Toronto managed a win against Baltimore which moved the division title even further away from them. The Yankees haven’t got the wildcard spot officially yet but still have a 4 game lead as far as the top spot is concerned.

As it has happened throughout the season, the Yankees scored in the 1st inning. Jacoby Ellsbury started with a ground rule double before Brett Gardner moved him with a sac bunt. Alex Rodriguez then hit a sac fly in order to score the only run for the Yankees. They had chances later too but Jackie Bradley Jr. made a few nice plays from left field to deny John Ryan Murphy & Chase Headley additional base-hits.

It wasn’t too bad an outing for Nova though. The Red Sox did not manage any runs till the 6th inning. Travis Shaw managed to hit a 2-run homer right after a Xander Bogaerts double. Ivan gave another 2 run homer to Bradley Jr in the 7th which took the score to 4-1. He had 7 strikeouts on the night as well as 2 walks and 4 earned runs in 7 innings. The 5th run was given by Caleb Cotham in the 9th to Deven Merrero. He did manage a couple of outs before that though.

Carlos Beltran also made a nice play from right field by catching a ball from foul territory. Michael Pineda is going to get a start tomorrow when they’re up against Rick Porcello with the Yankees chasing their 10000th victory and a spot in postseason.
