Irrespective of what your email inbox is telling you, the overall rates for spam have fallen to less than 50% for the 1st time in twelve years.
The rate for unwanted emails touched 49.7 % in June which was 1.8% less than the previous month which had fallen by 0.6% from the month before.
As per the latest Intelligence Report by Symantec, the last time such a low spam rate was recorded was way back in September of 2003.
Even though the usual Nigerian prince & penis-enlargement messages are still getting into your daily mail in some way or another, most people are more likely to get emails that push Lasik eye surgery, auto insurance and online nursing degrees. But the award for the most spam mail was given to the mining industry with 56% in May which was higher than its earlier best of 55% in the previous month.
Manufacturing was in 2nd with 54% while construction came in 3rd with 53%. Retail, finance, insurance, real estate and public administration were also a part of the top 10.
Spam rates on the basis of organization size were also reported by Symantec. You will be surprised to know that the companies with less than 500 employees are the ones which are most likely to send these spam messages.
Enterprises of every size account for 52-53% of spam as per this firm. But it appears to be that the more people are employed, the fewer unwanted messages are sent. The spam rate for companies with 501-2500 workers was lower than 52.5% in May.
This news come right after Google had introduced a new Gmail Postmaster Tools the previous weeks which lets all qualified high-volume senders including e-retailers, governments, crowdfunding sites, etc. analyze email and data regarding delivery errors, reputation and spam reports.
