Twitter bans ‘revenge porn’ and updates rules and policies on sharing inappropriate, unconsented postsThe trendy social media platform Twitter, where at any given day countless people are tweeting whatever it is that they feel like, attacking each other, posting uncensored tweets are finally coming to an end.

Twitter is taking online harassment very seriously and making updates on its rules and policies and barring the posts of “revenge porn”.

Twitter now prohibits people on sharing private information of others. You are not allowed to publish or post private and confidential information of others e.g. credit card numbers, social security or national ID numbers, or even street address without the permission and authorization of the person involved. Intimate photos or videos which were captured or distributed with the consent of a person is another big no no!

Adjustments on the policy for abusive behavior have also been made by Twitter. It is not allowed to make direct or specific threats of violence against other users. This includes threats against an individual or a group of people based on their race, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender, disability or age and the whole shebang!

Furthermore, users are not allowed to post intimate photos or videos which were captured or distributed without the consent of the individual in question. According to the rules and term of service of Twitter, targeted abuse or harassment is considered a serious violation.

These changes have been effective as of Wednesday and Twitter has announced that the user’s account shall be locked and content reported hidden if it falls under the category of the aforementioned violations and new policies. Twitter has said that it will take actions such as suspending the accounts which will be involved in posting such contents for harassing other users or people in general.

Twitter keeps on continuing to battle online harassment and bullying. The CEO of Twitter Dick Costolo has sent a series of memos to the employees in February taking personal responsibility of what he has referred to as “an inadequate response to the chronic abuse and harassment that occurs daily on the social network.”
