The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio mentioned that Daniel Bryan’s WWE European Tour was cut short because he had a concussion which he was suffering from since his match with Sheamus on Smackdown. Before this report of the concussion surfaced the WWE said in a statement that Bryan was only sent home as a precaution and didn’t offer any other details on his condition.
But Dave Meltzer as well as Bryan Alvarez ae both saying that they were told Daniel Bryan has suffered a concussion even though the WWE is outright denying this claim simply saying he is just “banged up.”
I’m sure you would have noticed that Daniel Bryan did not wrestle this past week on RAW. He was clearly in the arena on Monday night and even made a backstage appearance. And he just made an appearance for a tag team match on Smackdown. So why didn’t he wrestle then? Rumors were that Bryan, the Intercontinental Champion was going to face John Cena, the United States Champion in a long, hard-fought match. However, he was replaced by Bad New Barrett and it was a decent match as well. Still, many people wanted to see Bryan perform and were let down.
The WWE is still pushing for Bryan to wrestle against Barrett at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view for the championship. It’s believed that if Bryan actually did have a concussion they wouldn’t have allowed him to wrestle even in tag matches. If he can pass all the tests then he should be okay to go. The only problem is that the WWE doesn’t know exactly what’s wrong with Bryan which is why his presence on the European Tour was cut short. The main reason for this controversy is the CM Punk interview where he exposed holes in the medical staff at the WWE. He said that if the WWE wanted someone to perform, they would make them pass the tests no matter what. They didn’t care about the safety of the wrestlers and that’s what pushed him further away from them.
I can’t tell for certain whether the WWE is following the same method here as alleged by Punk but if they do happen to put Bryan in a match at Extreme Rules with a concussion, I would be closer to certainty. The WWE really needs to be careful with this wrestler especially since he just returned from a neck injury. They definitely wouldn’t want to lose such a brilliant guy.
