Thursday night Smackdown, April 23rd results Reigns gains momentum ahead of Extreme Rules pay per view

The final stop before the Extreme Rules pay-per-view this Sunday was the April 23rd episode of Thursday Night SmackDown. Hot on the heels of RAW, the show started off with Kane and Seth Rollins arguing in the center of the ring. Rollins was worried since Kane was made the gatekeeper for his match against Randy Orton on Sunday. Kane suggested that Rollins lie down for him in a match right away as a return for the favor Kane did for him earlier. Rollins unwillingly laid down on the mat but Kane laughed it off saying it was just a joke. He then booked Rollins against his past teammate Dean Ambrose. But Harper attacked Ambrose before the match even kicked off only to be thwarted by Roman Reigns. And just like that a tag match was scheduled for the main event, Rollins and Harper vs Reigns and Ambrose.

The other matches included Neville & Dolph Ziggler taking on Bad News Barrett and Neville, Naomi vs Natalya, Ryback vs Rusev and Kofi Kingston vs Cesaro. Neville pinned Barrett for the win, Naomi won against Natalya, Ryback won by disqualification when Rusev used the Russian chain on him and Kingston defeated Cesaro with help from Xavier Woods.

As far as the main event goes, Reigns picked up a win for his team by pinning Rollins after a spear. This helped him gain some momentum before his match against the Big Show on Sunday and also put him in line to claim a title shot against Rollins in the future.

There is still very little we know about Daniel Bryan’s health and it seems like Neville is going to be taking his spot on Sunday if he doesn’t recover in time. He went toe to toe with the likes of Sheamus and Bad New Barrett but in all honesty, I would prefer if it was Daniel Bryan in the squared circle instead of him. This is obviously all speculation though and Bryan could still make it to the pay-per-view. Will we get to see the “Yes Movement” at WWE Extreme Rules? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
